Sometimes illustrations just come together in a magical way. This started as a warmup piece before I did a few commissioned pieces.
I decided that I wanted to practice on latex, so it began with that. For some reason I got the idea of making her Medusa, and the spear and the background just followed from that.
I used a color palette from a still of the recent movie "Napoleon" to get the desert colors right and that led to the tan sky, which also served as my light source on the figure.
All of my decisions just fell into place.
My inking job was easy and loose and fun.
Frankly, I had more fun doing this piece than I have in a long time.
This was my first fully illustrated piece in about six weeks. Maybe I should take a break more often!
